SUNY Korea Department of Computer Science Professors Advance Strategic R&D Planning in Robotics and Energy-Efficient AI
Professors Francois Rameau and Zhoulai Fu of the Department of Computer Science at SUNY Korea have been selected to participate in strategic R&D planning initiatives focused on next-generation robotics and energy-efficient AI. Through collaboration with leading Korean research institutes, the initiatives provide opportunities to develop their research concepts and establish pathways toward future national and international R&D projects. SUNY Korea has launched two strategic R&D planning initiatives in next-generation robotics and energy-efficient AI, strengthening the university’s engagement with Korea’s national research and innovation ecosystem. The initiatives are part of a collaborative program supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Incheon Global Campus (IGC), designed to foster industry–academia–research cooperation and identify promising research areas for future national and international collaborative R&D. Professor Francois Rameau is leading a research planning initiative in AI-powered robotics and spatial intelligence, exploring technologies for next-generation intelligent robotic systems that can better perceive, understand, and interact with complex real-world environments. The research area is being further explored in collaboration with KATECH (Korea Automotive Technology Institute) as part of the robotics technology R&D planning process. Through technical discussions and expert consultation, the team will refine the research direction and explore opportunities for future collaborative R&D. Professor Zhoulai Fu is leading a research planning initiative in energy-efficient AI and machine learning, focusing on technologies that could improve the efficiency and sustainability of future AI computing systems. The research area is being further developed with KETI (Korea Electronics Technology Institute) in connection with advanced semiconductor and AI computing technologies. The planning process will explore promising technological directions and collaborative opportunities for future research in advanced AI and semiconductor technologies. Kick-off meetings with the respective research teams and partner institutes have been completed, marking the beginning of the next stage of the R&D planning process. The selected research topics will now be further developed through technical consultation, collaborative planning, and engagement with potential research partners, with the goal of building competitive research concepts for future national and international R&D opportunities. This process provides SUNY Korea with an important opportunity to connect the expertise of its Computer Science faculty with leading Korean research institutes and to expand collaboration with industry, academia, and international research partners. The SUNY Korea Research Support Team (R&BDF) will work closely with Professors Rameau and Fu throughout the planning process, supporting coordination with research institutes, government-related organizations, and potential collaborative partners. Beyond the initial planning stage, R&BDF will continue to support the development of these research concepts into competitive R&D proposals and future funding opportunities, working together with the faculty and partner institutions toward successful project development and acquisition. Through this collaborative effort, SUNY Korea aims to strengthen a sustainable pathway from promising research ideas to strategic R&D planning, collaborative partnerships, competitive proposals, and future national and international R&D projects.

Bringing Fashion to Campus with The Style Shop Korea Opening
On September 14, The Style Shop Korea celebrated its opening on the first floor of SUNY Korea Academic Building A. The shop was developed under the leadership of Professor Hyeseon Kim and the FIT School Club, MSC (Merchandising Society Club). What makes this Style Shop especially meaningful is that all of the products were created by FIT students. During the opening event, house music filled the space, creating a fashionable and energetic atmosphere in the style shop area. The shop features a clean, white-toned interior arranged with SUNY Korea merchandise. Students who visited could find clothing in a wide range of colors, from hot pink to gray and navy pieces that they can easily wear in their daily life. To celebrate the opening, the shop also held a special promotion event, “Buy One, Get One Gift”. The Style Shop Korea offers more than just merchandise designed by students. Visitors are assisted by students throughout the entire shopping experience, from knowing about the products and receiving personalized recommendations to checking out and having their purchases packaged. Their friendly services helped to make the shop feel professional and welcoming for customers. Seojung Park, a Fashion Business Management student at FIT Korea and vice president of MSC, explained that preparing this Style Shop took two months. According to Seojung, opening an actual retail space involved many challenges. However, watching customers purchase products she designed and enjoying the space she helped create made the experience especially memorable for her. “It feels rewarding to me to see customers buy the products we designed and enjoy the style shop,” Seojung said. “Through this project, I experienced real field experience that will help my future fashion career, and I learned how to run an actual fashion store.” The Style Shop Korea illustrates how SUNY Korea students can apply what they learn in lectures to a real retail environment. By participating in product development, customer service, sales and even packaging, students gained real field experiences in several areas of fashion business. The style shop also gives the SUNY Korea community an opportunity to support student’s creativity while purchasing distinctive school merchandise. SUNY Korea Distinguished Seminar: “Tech on a Slice of Pizza”
SUNY Korea Distinguished Seminar, titled “Tech on a Slice of Pizza,” was held on Friday, May 15, 2026, in room C105 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The seminar was presented by Seung-Hyun Lee, a Strategic Management professor at the University of Texas at Dallas specializing in international business and nonmarket strategy. The seminar examined how Domino’s Pizza transformed itself from a struggling fast-food chain into one of the most successful technology-driven companies in the restaurant industry. The presentation focused on Domino’s dramatic turnaround during the late 2000s. At the time, the company faced severe criticism regarding the quality of its pizza, and its stock price had fallen significantly to around seven dollars per share. Rather than ignoring public criticism, Domino’s responded with a bold and transparent strategy under the leadership of former CEO Patrick Doyle. The company openly acknowledged customer complaints and introduced a completely redesigned pizza recipe. This honest marketing approach helped rebuild consumer trust and played a major role in improving both sales performance and brand reputation. Another major topic discussed during the seminar was the role of technology and innovation in Domino’s success. Domino’s invested heavily in digital platforms, customer data analysis, and delivery innovation. Examples included the company’s DPX delivery partnership with Ford and the use of artificial intelligence to analyze millions of customer-submitted pizza photos. These technological strategies allowed Domino’s to improve customer experience, delivery efficiency, and product consistency. As a result, the company began to be recognized not only as a pizza chain but also as a technology-oriented business. The seminar effectively demonstrated how strong leadership, transparency, and continuous innovation can help companies recover from crises and maintain competitiveness in a rapidly changing market. It also highlighted the importance of adapting to modern consumer expectations through technology and data-driven decision-making. Overall, “Tech on a Slice of Pizza” was an engaging and informative seminar that provided valuable insight into business transformation, crisis management, and the growing influence of technology in modern business strategy.
